OQBN Vac-45 Sale Participation Increased Returns $47.04 per Head

The Oklahoma Quality Beef Network (OQBN) is collaboration between the OSU Beef Extension Team and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association. Through 2010 OQBN Vac-45 sale 7,537 calves were sold in 10 sales held at livestock markets in Durant, McAlester, OKC-West, Blackwell, Stillwell, Pawnee, and Tulsa. These calves sold represented 177 producers and 851 lots of calves. Several producers also took the opportunity to Source and Age verify 1,382 calves. The average premium received on calves was $7.84/cwt which resulted in an additional $47.04 received for a 600 lb calf. This program resulted in Oklahoma producers generating an additional $354,000 from the sale of their calves.
